DC Emancipation Day: April 16, 2015

Emancipation Day is a holiday observed in the District of Columbia, which marks the anniversary of the signing of the Compensated Emancipation Act.The Emancipation Act, signed by President Abraham Lincoln, freed more than 3000 slaves in the District of Columbia.
