WELCOME TO HISTORIC JOHN A. WILSON BUILDING
Your visit to the historic John A. Wilson Building begins as you enter the main foyer of this beautiful edifice. With its soaring spaces and original historic features, the Wilson Building welcomes you on a journey of discovery. The Wilson Building is home to the executive offices of the Mayor and the Council of the District of Columbia. Through our tours, you will learn about how the Council functions, how this magnificent building was built, and how citizens can participate in the legislative process of the District of Columbia Government.
LOCATION AND HOURS
The John A. Wilson Building is located at 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C., directly across the street from Freedom Plaza. It is geographically located at the corner of 14th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue.
Visitors: The Wilson Building is open daily to the public from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. It is closed on holidays.
GUIDED TOURS OF THE WILSON BUILDING
Guided tours of the Wilson Building begin on the first floor, in the main foyer of the building. All visitors enter the foyer through the main entrance of the building located on Pennsylvania Avenue.
If you are interested in planning a tour for your youth group, please complete a <Tour Request Form>, and forward it via email to youthprograms@dccouncil.us. All tour requests must be submitted at least seven (7) business days before the proposed tour date. For any other questions regarding tours, please contact the Council’s Office of Youth Programs at 202.724.8161.
Tour Hours: Tours are approximately 45 minutes long, and are given each day from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. All tours are free.
VISITOR TIPS
All areas of the Wilson Building are smoke free.
Baby strollers are permitted in the Wilson Building.
Service Animals: Service animals are allowed in the Wilson Building.
SAFETY AND SECURITY
Before entering the Wilson Building, all visitors are screened by a magnetometer, and all items that are permitted inside the building are screened by an x-ray device. The following items are strictly prohibited:
Any bag larger than 14" wide x 13" high x 4" deep
Aerosol containers
Any pointed object (i.e., knitting needles, letter openers)
Note: pens and pencils are permitted.
Cans and bottles
Electric stun guns, martial arts weapons or devices
Food or beverages of any kind
Guns, replica guns, ammunition, and fireworks
Knives of any size
Mace and pepper spray
Non-aerosol spray (prescriptions for medical needs are permitted)
Razors and box cutters
RESPECTING ART IN THE WILSON BUILDING
During your visit, help preserve the Wilson Building’s statues and other works of art. Enjoy looking at them, but please do not touch them.
