The Committee on Health will hold a hearing on the following legislation:

  • B20-168, the Cottage Food Act of 2013, which would amend the Department of Health Functions Clarification Act of 2001 to permit cottage food businesses in the District, permit cottage food businesses to operate without a license from the Department of Health if the specific laws concerning cottage food businesses are followed, authorize the Department of Health to define food products to be sold by cottage food businesses, establish storage and labeling requirements for food products produced by cottage food businesses, authorize inspections of cottage food businesses if a complaint is received by the Department of Health, and authorize the Department of Health to issue regulations concerning cottage food businesses

Persons wishing to testify are encouraged, but not required, to submit 15 copies of written testimony.  If submitted by the close of business on Thursday, June 27, 2013, the testimony will be distributed to Councilmembers before the hearing.  Witnesses should limit their testimony to four minutes; less time will be allowed if there are a large number of witnesses. 

If you are unable to testify at the hearing, written statements are encouraged and will be made a part of the official record.  Copies of written statements should be submitted to Ms. Melanie Williamson, Room 115 of the Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W. Washington, D.C. 20004.  The record will close at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, July 15, 2013.
